Future of Nursing: Importance of Nursing Education
The Institute of Medicine’s (IOM’s) Future of Nursing Report had it that 80% of the nurses should have a Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) degree by 2020. According to Maughan, Bobo, Butler, and Schantz (2016), having a BSN degree increases one’s knowledge and skills in providing quality patient care, leading to the improvement in health outcomes characterized by fewer patient readmission rates, failure-to-rescue, etc. This paper will discuss my options as an undergraduate in the nursing job market, the personal certification, and advancement degrees, how educational levels affect my competitiveness in the job market, my role in the future of nursing, and personal perspectives in whether continuing education (CE) should be mandatory.
My Options in the Job Market
BSN education offers me a plethora of options in the job market. These include a specialist RN in any field (e.g. surgical nurse, pediatric nurse, hospice nurse, obstetric and gynecological nurse, ICU nurse, etc.). I could also become a nurse manager whose roles and responsibilities include supervising every day’s activities in the patient care unit. Also, the nurse anesthetist role would be an option for me which involves dealing with patients undergoing surgical procedures. With a BSN degree, I could also become a labor and delivery nurse where I would care for women during prenatal, childbirth, and post-natal care. Also, an educator is a job option for BSN nurses. The roles of an educator would include educating patients and also fellow nurses in different care settings…..Click link below to purchase full tutorial at $5
